The Limpet™ addresses four core use cases within wind: wind turbine nacelle and hub access; evacuation and emergency rescue; blade inspection and precise work positioning; and offshore turbine marine transfer.

Nacelle and Hub Access

The Limpet™ offers a completely new approach to fall protection and ladder ascent. By keeping workers on a constantly tight rope from above, the Limpet™ actually prevents falls from occurring, arresting them almost as soon as they happen. Combined with Intelligent Climb Assist™ functionality, the Limpet™ is a faster, more reliable and cost effective alternative to lifts or combined point products.

Evacuation & Emergency Rescue

In the event of an emergency inside the turbine, the Limpet™ can be used to lower two people simultaneously from the turbine hub to the ground at a speed of 1 metre per second. No specialist equipment or professional rescue teams are required. Tests show that the Limpet™ can help to evacuate casualties from inside a turbine up to ten times faster than conventional systems.

Blade Inspection

The Limpet™ removes the need for expensive and time-consuming rope access systems or the hydraulic maintenance platforms that are currently used to perform blade inspections. Once a hub sling is in place, a Limpet™ mounted on a 4x4 vehicle enables technicians to inspect turbine blades using the Limpet's 'lift' function, and allows them to move up, down and along the blade structure in complete safety and with a maximum of safety and control.

Offshore Turbine Marine Transfer

The extreme operating environment for offshore wind – increased turbine height and distance from professional rescue facilities – places an even greater burden on standard safety equipment. With performance specifications that far exceed other point products, the Limpet™ provides a solution that offshore workers can rely on. The Limpet™ can also deal with applications that are unique to the offshore wind market, including a mechanism for safely and inexpensively transferring engineers from marine vessels to the access platforms of wind turbines.
