TATA STEEL COLD ROLLING MILL USE LIMPET® L5 FOR FURNACE INSPECTION
Limpet Technology today announced that it had successfully commissioned a second Limpet® system at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur plant. The Limpet® L5 was supplied to the Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) division in order to allow them to perform rapid inspection of the radiant tubes inside their steel furnaces during shut down periods. Since getting the production line up and running as quickly as possible is the critical priority, the Limpet® will play a crucial role in saving the plant time and money without compromising safety.
Limpet Technology worked with its local partner Unicare Safety Equipment to specify an A-frame that could fit into the tight spaces above the furnaces. This provides a clear path for the safety lines straight down the furnaces and allows the very confined spaces to be inspected on the Limpet® without risk. Philip Taylor, Business Development Director at Limpet Technology commented, “We are delighted to continue our involvement with a flagship company such as Tata Steel and applaud their attitude to using new and innovative technology”. As with the previous Limpet® unit supplied to the Continuous Annealing & Processing joint venture between Tata and Nippon Steel, CRM were looking for a solution that could be quickly rigged and de-rigged with no need for specialist rope access skills, was easy to use and which provided state of the art rescue capability. |
