LIMPET®  SYSTEM   FEATURES

Limpet® products are multi-functional by design. That means that every system is packed with innovative, high performance and fully integrated features that enable TOTAL HEIGHT SAFETY while delivering a great user experience.  Please take a look at the text and videos below to get a feel for what these functions will mean in practice.

  • Before starting a ladder climb, the operator puts all of their weight onto the Limpet® safety line. The system automatically calculates their weight, including any tools they may be carrying and applies assistance of up to 90% of the total. A 90kg technician, carrying 10kg of equipment in a backpack will therefore receive 90kg of upward assistance. Each 'weigh-in' is unique to the climber and so if the next climber weighs only 50kg then they will receive 45kg of assistance.  This makes long ladder climbs effortless.
  • The integrated Assisted Descent feature provides a fully supported down-climbing experience and makes for a faster and more secure descent.

  • Limpet® systems are full tested and certified fall arrest solutions. With instantaneous catch, a slip is arrested before it has a chance to become a fall, which is why we classify it as fall prevention rather than fall arrest. You'll see why if you watch the video below
  • With almost zero fall distance, virtually no strain is put on the system in the event of a fall. Limpet® systems are designed with a x15 safety factor and are engineered to be repeatedly fallen on with no need for units to be taken out of commission
  • With a safety line length of up to 130 metres, the Limpet® can span enormous vertical distances far beyond the reach of fall arrest blocks.

  • Personnel lifting functions are controllable from the RF remote control or cabled controller unit. This allows operators to use the Limpet® as suspended access system to precisely position themselves against vertical structures for inspection and maintenance work
  • The risks of electrical failure during suspended access work is minimised via optional UPS battery pack and/ or a manual unwind port

  • The lifting and lowering capability of Limpet® enables a rescuer on the ground to  recover the casualty using the cabled control unit with no need for them to go to height
  • If there is no line of sight to the casualty (for example if there are hatches in between) then a colleague will have to go to their location. Once contact is made, a colleague can use the RF remote control to quickly provide a controlled lower or lift of the casualty to a place of safety. This scenario is demonstrated in the rescue reconstruction video below
  • A new Limpet® ladder climbing safety feature is the "Casualty in suspension" alarm, which sounds automatically after 1 minute (configurable) when the system detects that the operator is hanging with their full weight on the safety line

  • The Limpet's 'clip & go' evacuation feature means it can be employed easily and safely by any user. The Limpet® can be set up so that, just like a constant rate descender, it will start lowering as soon as weight is put onto the safety line. Limpet systems are rated for 280kg in descent which means they  can be used to simultaneously evacuate 2 people at up to 1 metre per second
