Limpet® Wind Energy Solutions

ON-AND-OFFSHORE FROM MONOPILE TO BLADE
We are working with major turbine OEMs, energy utilities and technical service specialists to  reduce operations and maintenance costs and increase availability of wind turbines through the deployment of Limpet safety systems. Key applications for Limpet® systems include:

  • Climb assist safety systems for long ladders
  • Suspended access inspection and repair work on blades and towers
  • Cost effective safety system during turbine construction and commissioning
  • Lifting materials and equipment to nacelle or TP gantry
  • Transferring personnel and loads between vessels and offshore turbines
  • Rescuing casualties from inside the nacelle or monopile

Limpet® solutions are a leap forward in performance, safety, usability and functionality. The applications below describe only some of our activities in wind energy. If you'd like to discuss these or others please get in touch.

Tower Climbing with Next Generation Climb Assist

Limpet® systems are the only truly integrated tower climbing safety products on the market. Combining best in class powered climb assist, with fall prevention, work positioning, rescue,  and evacuation features, deploying Limpet® is the best route to healthier, happier and more productive turbine technicians.

  • Up to 90% climb and descent assistance means technicians can get up and down long ladders faster and more easily, increasing productivity & asset availability
  • Fully integrated, PPE certified fall prevention system means zero compatibility problems between climb assist and fall arrest systems
  • Fully integrated rescue and evacuation features make getting  casualties to safety faster than every before
  • A 'black box’ data recorder for all activity on the Limpet® safety line. Site supervisors can monitor levels of access and perform remote diagnostics via SCADA

On-Shore & Offshore Rotor Blade Inspection & Repair

  • Faster access via personnel lifting to top of blade rather than climbing internal tower to descend via ropes
  • Easy and exertion free tool for ascent and descent. Inspectors are fresher and more productive
  • Avoids any daily climbing limit restrictions that might impact blade inspection schedule
  • Rapid rescue by lowering from main control unit in event of emergency. No need for rescuers to go to height
  • Usable in wet weather conditions; no slip risk coming over hub as with normal rope access inspection
  • Simple and fast to rig and derig

Turbine Construction & Commissioning

The Limpet® is a quick and easy to install safety system that provides workers with protection across the whole height of the turbine as each section is installed
  • Make construction workers safer through easy to use fall prevention + rescue system
  • Make workers faster and more productive through 90% climb assist
  • Helps workers carry tools up tower
  • Save time and costs associated with installing different lengths of conventional FAS as new tower sections are added
  • Provide in-situ safety system ready for use once construction ends and operation begins

Safe Offshore Personnel Transfer in High Sea States

We are collaborating with offshore industry players to develop the Limpet® M5 as a means of safely transferring personnel between vessels and offshore wind turbines in sea states above 2 metres significant wave height. Our process uses a combination of Limpet® features including:

  • Heave compensated fall prevention allows safe clip in and out while on the deck of the vessel
  • Personnel lifting out of the risk zone...eliminates the 'step across'
  • Rapid emergency rescue via RF remote

By enabling safe access up to and beyond 2 metres wave height, we hope to enable huge cost savings for offshore wind energy companies
