ORE Catapult's "Backing the Game Changers" Campaign puts the Limpet Offshore Personnel Transfer System at its Heart
We're very proud to be one of the companies at the heart of a new campaign by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC) that launches today.
Backing the Game Changers" highlights the work that OREC are doing to assist the development and delivery of innovative (and potentially 'game changing') technologies that can accelerate growth of the UK's renewable energy sector. As the campaign website states, "Whether they are transferring technology from another industry or creating new solutions, these are the companies set to make waves globally".
Limpet Technology has partnered with OREC, to allow access to their 7MW Offshore Demonstration Turbine at Levenmouth in Fife as a development test-bed and demonstration facility for our new Offshore Personnel Transfer system, a high-speed remote controlled hoist and fall arrest solution with deck motion compensation enabled through laser tracking.
Having proved the concept in our workshop through prototyping with our CTV simulator (seen in the video HERE), the Levenmouth Demonstrator Turbine will allow us to accelerate our product development programme to meet the rigorous demands of the real world.
This will give us and our partners a high degree of confidence in the systems technical readiness, prior to taking it into full sea-trials on live offshore wind farms later in the year.
As the video shows, although the sunny May day was great for capturing dramatic drone footage. the wave compensation capabilities of the Limpet OPTS were not much required on such calm waters. However, it's weather conditions at the very opposite end of the spectrum that the system is being designed for, allowing technicians to safely transfer between vessels and turbines in waves of up to 3 metres significant height.
